AWARD® File Sizes: Best Practices

This guide helps users manage performance expectations in AWARD®, particularly when working with large files or projects with a high overall file volume.

AWARD® Data Limits & Recommendations

While AWARD® file storage is determined by disk capacity, performance can degrade when certain thresholds are exceeded. Large file sizes and total project size may impact server performance and user experience. Additionally, factors like internet speed and local network settings (e.g., firewalls) can cause delays.

Key Recommendations

  • Total Project Size:
It’s advisable to limit the total project size to 10GB. Projects up to 200GB can be accommodated with prior arrangement. Please contact your account manager for assistance.
  • Large Files:
Processing times, such as virus scanning and secure storage, will increase for larger files, resulting in longer upload times.
  • Individual File Size:
Files larger than 500MB may experience slower upload and download times, especially on slower internet connections. Aim to keep files below this size for optimal performance.
  • Bulk Download:
Limited to 10GB or 10,000 documents. Larger files must be downloaded individually.
  • Upload File Size limit:
The maximum file size for uploads is 20GB.
  • Upload Session Time Limit:
For security reasons, the maximum session time is 10 hours. Even with session keep-alive enabled, uploads exceeding this limit will fail.

Additional Context

These guidelines are meant to provide an optimal user experience, though they are not strict limits. AWARD® can handle larger files, but performance may be affected by external factors such as internet speed. Uploading or downloading multiple large files simultaneously may result in delays or impact project timelines.

Estimated Upload/Download Times

Below are estimated times for uploading or downloading a 3GB file at various internet speeds:

Internet Speed (Mbps)

Time to Upload/Download a 3GB File

20 Mbps

~21 minutes

50 Mbps

~9 minutes

100 Mbps

~4 minutes
